Athletes Sphere officially launched a historic new Affiliate partnership in early 2026 with Villarreal CF—one of La Liga's most prestigious and globally respected clubs. Renowned for its deep-rooted heritage and elite track record of success in Spain and continental competitions, Villarreal CF brings world-class prestige to this collaboration. As the proud UEFA Europa League winners in 2021 and UEFA Champions League semi-finalists in 2022, the Spanish club's tactical brilliance and operational blueprint will now serve as a primary foundation for upcoming localized training programs.
This dynamic partnership expands far beyond basic athletic drills, driving key cross-border initiatives across three strategic pillars:Football Development And Methodology: Direct integration of elite European coaching philosophies into regional grassroots frameworks to scout and refine high-potential athletic profiles.Technical And Cultural Exchange Programs: Building fully immersive bilateral exchange systems where local coaches and young prospects travel to Spain to absorb masterclass tactical training protocols.Global Sports Tourism Initiatives: Creating high-profile sports travel experiences and structural sports tourism pipelines that connect international football scouts, families, and networks directly to the heart of Spanish and Zimbabwean sports culture.
This elite collaboration is specifically engineered to foster massive long-term growth opportunities across Zimbabwe, Spain, and global football communities. By bridging the gap between local talent networks and a top-tier European club, Athletes Sphere continues to pioneer structured professional pathways for modern athletes. Ultimately, this monumental partnership serves as a lasting catalyst for the structural development of Zimbabwean sport, empowering its people, elevating its athletic infrastructure, and showcasing local football talent on the global stage.
Athletes Sphere, successfully hosted the Villarreal Camp: a three-day football camp on 27, 28, and 30 April 2026 at Morris Depot Grounds, Harare, Zimbabwe. The camp featured esteemed Villarreal CF coaches from Spain, Vicky Yarnold and Carlos Ortiz, who introduced the Villarreal CF methodology to more than 150 young players aged 4 to 17, alongside Athletes Sphere’s local coaching team.
The camp was graced by distinguished guests, including Her Excellency Ms. Lourdes Sangroniz, Ambassador of Spain to Zimbabwe, accompanied by her Deputy Mrs. Ines Mena. They were joined by officials from the Sports and Recreation Commission Zimbabwe, led by Director Mr. Sebastian Garikai, representatives from the Zimbabwe Football Association, led by Mr. Jacob Chavungama, and Mr. Marcos Pelegrin, former Managing Director of LaLiga Africa. Together, they welcomed the launch of the new Villarreal Project for Zimbabwe and shared memorable moments with Athletes Sphere Chairman Mr. Gerald Sibanda, coaches, and players.
This initiative provided young athletes with invaluable exposure to the fundamentals of professional football, fostering both technical and tactical development. Through partnerships of this nature, Athletes Sphere Global continues to pursue its mission of nurturing young talent and creating pathways for players to advance into professional football, both within Zimbabwe and internationally.
